EMDR BASIC TRAINING

EMDR PSYCHOTHERAPY

EMDR Psychotherapy originated as a trauma therapy that is now supported my copious amounts of empirical research. As EMDR has continued to be studied, it has become clear how it is helpful for a variety of issues that one might experience. This includes anxiety, addictions, low self-esteem and  personality disorders. Becoming an EMDR therapist provides you with an entire new skillset and potential for improved client outcomes.

Name of Person

Our goal is for each participant to feel competent and confident in their clinical skills at the completion of this training with lots of real life experiences and support. The process of learning EMDR is more than just attending a workshop or a lecture. EMDR Basic Training involves learning the theory that informs EMDR psychotherapy while practicing this therapy in training, both as clinician and client. Due to the importance of utilizing this therapy in the most effective manner, attending a training that is approved by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) guarantees that the necessary objectives to make you successful at implementing EMDR with clients are met.

Our training is an EMDRIA Approved Training and occurs over the course of two long weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Our course is all-inclusive, meaning that you will experience continuity in your training as the same team that facilitates the lecture and practicum portion of your training will also provide the 10 hours of required group consultation. The consultation groups occur virtually and are  required to assist in the integration of the training material into practice with your clients.

Participants will learn via lecture, video, demonstrations, Q & A sessions, role play demonstrations, small group exercises and supervised practice sessions. Each participant will experience EMDR as both clinician and client through two practice sessions each weekend. These practice sessions are facilitated by members of the training staff. This EMDRIA Approved Training is facilitated by Lauren Day, MS, LPC-S, CEDS-S, and LK Institute Trainer.

VIRTUAL OR IN PERSON

Our training is offered both virtually or in person depending on your preference and location. There are benefits to both options and we truly do not believe that one method is better than the other. For those who are local, love to connect with others and want to feel the energy in the room, in person training is perfect. However, many enjoy the convenience of attending training from their own space and being able to practice EMDR via the computer as this can be very helpful in using EMDR for client Telehealth sessions. If you participate virtually, you are required to keep your camera on for the entire duration of the training in order to verify attendance. Feel free to call our office to discuss which option might be best for you.

REQUIREMENTS & FEES

EMDR PRACTICE REQUIREMENTS

EMDRIA requires that participants practice EMDR Psychotherapy in between training weekends to assist in the proper integration and application of the training material. You will have help to determine what clients might be best to practice EMDR with during the required group consultation meetings. If you are a student or an intern, it is required that you provide documentation from your supervisor affirming their support of you practicing EMDR with clients during the course of this training. Additionally, EMDRIA requires that you practice EMDR as a client in training. This involves working on real material that you consider disturbing. Please consult with your healthcare team if you have any concerns about this. Please know that we offer a supportive environment and you have the ultimate control of what material you work on in the training.

CONSULTATION REQUIREMENTS
10 hours of group consultation are required to complete EMDR Basic Training . The training staff provides consultation in small group settings via teleconferencing following Weekend 1 and continuing in the weeks following Weekend 2. Each EMDR Basic Training has established times for the group consultations and will be provided to you based on which training dates you are registered.  You are responsible to attend all assigned group consultation times in order to successfully complete the training. In the event that you are unable to attend the assigned consultation times, you are responsible to obtain approved outside consultation at your own expense. LK Institute will not reimburse any fees as a result of your absence in the assigned consultation groups.

CE AVAILABILITY
We attempt to keep training costs as low as possible because of our belief in the power of EMDR Therapy and our vision of equipping as many clinicians as possible to use it. Continuing Education credits come as an additional cost to us. As we recognize that not every participant needs CE credits, we have made them optional for additional purchase. This helps us to keep training costs as low as possible. Currently we offer credit for NBCC and APA practitioners at an additional cost for those who are interested. EMDR Basic Training consists of 40 clock hours of continuing education for Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Work Counselors, Substance Abuse Counselors, and Licensed Psychologists. The cost of these 40 CE hours is $200. Please contact our office via email or phone to indicate if you would like to obtain these credits.  You have until the completion of your final consultation group to purchase these credits.

This program is co-sponsored by Advanced Education Institute (AEI) and LK Institute. AEI is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AEI maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
