EMDR Basic Training

February 7-9th, 2025 & March 28-30th, 2025

EMDR psychotherapy originated as a trauma therapy that is now supported by copious amounts of empirical research. As EMDR has continued to be studied, it has become clear how it is helpful for a variety of issues that one might experience. This includes anxiety, addictions, low self-esteem, and personality disorders. Becoming an EMDR therapist provides you with an entire new skillset and potential for improved client outcomes.

Our goal is for each participant to feel competent and confident in their clinical skills at the completion of this training, with lots of real-life experiences and support. The process of learning EMDR is more than just attending a workshop or a lecture. EMDR Basic Training involves learning the theory that informs EMDR psychotherapy while practicing this therapy in training, both as clinician and as a client. Due to the importance of utilizing this therapy in the most effective manner, attending a training that is approved by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) guarantees that the necessary objectives to make you successful at implementing EMDR with clients are met.

Our training is an EMDRIA Approved Training and occurs as either a 5-day intensive course or over two long weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). Our course is all-inclusive, meaning that you will experience continuity in your training as the same team that facilitates the lecture and practicum portion of your training will also provide the 10 hours of required group consultation. The consultation groups occur virtually and are required to assist in the integration of the training material into practice with your clients. Participants will learn via lecture, video, demonstrations, Q & A sessions, role play demonstrations, small group exercises, and supervised practice sessions. Each participant will experience EMDR as both clinician and client through two practice sessions each weekend. These practice sessions are overseen by members of the training staff. This EMDRIA Approved Training is facilitated by Lauren Kiser, PhD, MS, LPC, CEDS-S, and LK Institute Trainer. LK Institute is an ACEP approved provider, authorized to offer NBCC credits.

Additional Resources

EMDRIA requires that participants practice EMDR Psychotherapy in between training weekends to assist in the proper integration and application of the training material. During the required group consultation meetings, you will have help to determine what clients might be the best candidates for practicing EMDR. If you are a student or an intern, it is required that you provide documentation from your supervisor affirming their support of you practicing EMDR with clients during the course of this training. Additionally, EMDRIA requires that you practice EMDR as a client-in-training. This involves working on real material that you consider disturbing. Please consult with your healthcare team if you have any concerns about this. Please know that we offer a supportive environment and you have the ultimate control of what material you work on in the training.

Trainees who begin the EMDR training must complete the entire training within 12 months from their initial start date.

EDMR Practice Requirements

Ten (10) hours of group consultation are required to complete EMDR Basic Training. The training staff provides consultation in small group settings via teleconferencing following Weekend 1 and continuing in the weeks following Weekend 2. Each EMDR Basic Training has established times for the group consultations. You are responsible to attend all assigned group consultation times in order to successfully complete the training. In the event that you are unable to attend the assigned consultation times, we can potentially offer make-up sessions from another training, or you are responsible to obtain approved outside consultation at your own expense. LK Institute will not reimburse any fees as a result of your absence in the assigned consultation groups.

Consultation Requirements

We attempt to keep training costs as low as possible because of our belief in the power of EMDR Therapy and our vision of equipping as many clinicians as possible to use it. Continuing Education credits come at an additional cost to us. As we recognize that not every participant needs CE credits, we offer them as an optional, additional purchase. This helps us keep training costs as low as possible. The 40 NBCC hours (for 5-day trainings) or 42 NBCC hours (for 6-day trainings) are available for an additional purchase of $250. Further information may be requested at training@lkinstitute.com.

Participants must attend the training in full to receive the continuing education credits. Participants will not receive partial credit for partial attendance.

LK Institute has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7464. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. LK Institute is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs. This training qualifies for 40 or 42 NBCC hours.

This is an EMDRIA approved training.

Continuing Education Credits

Clinicians who possess an active license to practice psychotherapy are eligible to participate in EMDR Basic Training.
